Total Wipeout's Amanda Byram and former Irish Rugby Union international Shane Byrne took a breather from their 1,000-mile Sport Relief race today to chat to youngsters at a school in Shrewsbury.

The stars popped in to Shrewsbury High School, on Town Walls, to give pupils and staff an update on their progress in the race around the UK.

Amanda and Shane are both part of Team Ireland which also includes TV presenter Craig Doyle and celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin.

Amanda said that she was enjoying her brief visit to the county.

"It is great here, its brilliant," she said.

But she added she might feel differently at the end of the day after a long journey cycling across the county.

"It is exhausting, really, really tiring but it has just been so incredible. We have just loved every moment. It is 1,000 miles so you do need a bit of support and we have laughed a lot," she said.

Rugby star Shane said the Irish team was doing well so far. He said: "We have won two of the legs but we won't know who has won until the end."

The celebrities were greeted by about 100 excited pupils from the school before they gave a special assembly. Following their appearance the stars were due to be interviewed on the school's radio station by 15-year-old pupils Ella Breese and Lauren Bowen.

The team is racing around the country in a week by running, cycling and sailing.

They are competing against teams from England, Wales and Scotland.
