Members of the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, based at Clive Barracks, Tern Hill, near Market Drayton, were taking part in a traditional St Patrick's Day parade.

Yesterday the Commanding Officer's wife Diane Weir presented shamrocks, which were delivered to Birmingham Airport yesterday, to soldiers and officers.

The county's Lord Lieutenant, Algernon Heber-Percy, was due to take the salute today as he was joined family and friends of the battalion to mark the occasion at the base.
