The long-term future of Ellesmere Carnival is in doubt and this year's event could be the last, organisers warned today.

Officials behind Ellesmere Carnival say that after paying for the August event the kitty will be empty, unless people come forward to donate money.

The committee has a £5,000 black hole in its funding for the carnival, which attracts 4,000 people and costs £8,000 to put on.

Committee member Debbie Taylor said: "This year it will be going ahead by the skin of our teeth."

The carnival will be held on August 25 and the committee is looking for members and helpers.

The group is holding a children's Easter party on April 8 at the Comrades Club, an Easter Bingo on April 11 and a disco on June 3.
