A 21-year-old man from Ludlow has died after a long fight with a rare heart disease.

Sean Broome, of Whitbread Road, was born with Shone's Syndrome and had to have nine operations to treat problems with his heart – the first when he was just three months old.

He died on March 19 at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, having spent the last three weeks in intensive care at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital after contracting pneumonia.

Sean had been admitted just two days after his 21st birthday.

His devastated family today described some of their final moments with Sean.

Liz Weir, his grandmother, said the family were still struggling to come to terms with his death.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend Sean's funeral at St John's Church in the town on Saturday.
