Young footballers on a Staffordshire housing estate have been left heartbroken after thieves stole their new goalposts.

Six weeks ago, a kind-hearted resident in Doxey, Stafford, donated two five-a-side goals worth £1,000 to be installed in Virginia Park. But the goals have been snatched, leaving the young footballers devastated.

Adrian Rogers, who lives on Mahogany Drive, called the police once he spotted the goals had been taken.

Mr Rogers says the youngsters have been left gutted by the theft from the green space off Timberfields Road on Saturday night.

He said: "They gave the children –aged four to 10 – something to do. The goals were donated by a guy who wanted to give them something to let off steam with."

If anyone has any information they are asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 582 of March 25.
