A nine year old, whose wrist was broken by a wayward shot from Wayne Rooney, says he is the envy of all his friends and family after receiving a letter and signed shirt from the Manchester United ace.

Jamie Thomas, from Wem, was presented with the shirt and personal letter of apology yesterday and said he would now be getting them framed.

And the Shrewsbury Town and Manchester United fan said the gifts were far too precious to take to school.

He said: "I am absolutely amazed about it, I never thought it would come. Rooney is my best player and all my friends are jealous. I didn't take the shirt to school in case it gets lost or ripped.

"It is a bit big to wear so I am going to frame the shirt with the signed letter and put it on my wall in my bedroom.

Jamie said his four-year-old brother Makenzie was very jealous but his 11-year-old sister Jodee was less impressed as she did not like football.

The St Peter's Primary School pupil was hurt during the warm-up ahead of the Premier League game at Wolves on March 18.

It was the first time he had been to see Manchester United but ended up missing most of the second half as he was treated.

He said he was upset that he has to miss the rest of the season for Shawbury United Junior under 9s team but the drama was worth it.
