Shrewsbury Town do U-turn and make Port Vale tickets free
Fans who attended Shrewsbury Town's abandoned game with Port Vale will be able to see the rearranged game for free, the club announced today.
Fans who attended Shrewsbury Town's abandoned game with Port Vale will be able to see the rearranged game for free, the club announced today.
The club initially said that only season-ticket holders would be able to attend the rearranged match for free on April 17, at 7.45pm.
Fans who bought tickets on the night were faced with the prospect of having to pay again under a reduced price structure.
But this afternoon the club confirmed that, after meeting with supporter groups from both Shrewsbury and Port Vale, that retained ticket stubs from Tuesday's game would be eligible for free entry when the crunch League Two match is finally replayed.
Fans who did not attend the original game or who did not keep their ticket stubs will still have to pay.
It has already been postponed once and on Tuesday the match was abandoned and more than 7,000 supporters evacuated from the Greenhous Meadow following a blaze which broke out in one of the stands midway through the second half.
The change in stance follows meetings today with supporter groups including Away Supporters Travel, Super Blues, Official Supporters Club, Blue and Amber, Shrewstrust and the Away Supporters Football Club.
A spokesman from Shrewsbury Town said: "The club is responding to these most difficult circumstances caused by the unprecedented events."
Shrewsbury Town are confident tomorrow's home match against Aldershot will go ahead as scheduled, despite the extensive damage that was caused to the control unit requiring a complete rebuild.
