Two masked men armed with metal batons threatened staff at a fish and chip shop in Telford before escaping with £200 in cash.
The men burst into Ketley Cod, in Station Road, at about 10pm yesterday and ordered the woman behind the counter to open the till and give them the cash.
Police said one of the men then pulled the till off the counter – knocking tubs of hot kebab meat onto the floor – and took it into the kitchen, smashing it on the floor to open it.
Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: "Eventually the man managed to force the drawer of the till open and he then took around £200 from inside before fleeing the scene with his accomplice.
"Two customers who were just arriving at the shop did try to apprehend the men as they were escaping but they were unable to stop them getting away.
"Having left the shop the two offenders made off in the direction of Overdale."
Police said both men were described as being white, while one of them was also described as wearing a grey fleece and a grey balaclava. Call police on 101.
