Residents in a part of Telford hit by nearly 20 arson attacks today pleaded for even more police officers on the streets.

Police say they have stepped up patrols in Leegomery and Hadley after 18 cars were set alight in 10 days – including six which went up in flames yesterday.

But residents today said they want even more on the beat to catch the arsonists.

William Caden, who lives in Acacia Drive where a number of cars have been torched, said: "People are worried about it in the area.

"The police were around last week but we've hardly seen any this week."
