A family's car was torched in the early hours of today as arsonists struck again in Telford – making it 21 attacks in just two weeks.

Caroline Costello and her husband were awoken shortly before 5am when the back of their silver Vauxhall, parked outside the family home in Chockleys Meadow, Leegomery, was set on fire.

It is the latest in a string of attacks on cars in the Leegomery and Hadley areas.

Mrs Costello, who has three young children, said they were awoken by the car's alarm going off and neighbours banging on their windows.

"They called the fire brigade and they got here in about five minutes," she said.

Steve Moss, acting watch manager at Wellington Fire Station, said the latest attack was being linked with the others.

West Mercia Police spokesman Chris Ammonds said officers had begun inquiries following today's attack. Five people have been arrested in connection with some of the fires. All have been given police bail.
