A drug dealer from Shrewsbury who was on the run has been arrested by police in Whitchurch.

Richard John Davies, 38, has been recalled to prison for breaking the terms of his licence following his release on October 7 last year.

Davies, whose nickname is Wacky, was jailed for two years in October 2010 after pleading guilty to possessing heroin, a class A controlled drug, with intent to supply.

He also admitted a charge of supplying heroin.

Both offences were committed in Shrewsbury.

He was caught on Friday following a police manhunt for him, with Davies being found by police at an address in Castle Court, Whitchurch.

It follows a police appeal for information about his whereabouts last month.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Edwards, head of Shropshire CID, thanked members of the public who had responded to the police appeal for information about Davies's whereabouts.

He said today: "Officers in north Shropshire ran an operation on Friday which resulted in Davies being arrested at an address in Castle Court, Whitchurch.

"He has been returned to prison and I'd like to thank everyone who came forward with information in response to the police appeal."

Davies's prison licence was revoked by the Ministry of Justice under the Criminal Justice Act.

Police officers leading the investigation said that they had initially believed that Davies was still residing in the Shrewsbury area.

However, they had since discovered his whereabouts after establishing he also had connections in the north of the county.
