A 40-year-old man caught burgling a home in Telford has been jailed for 32 months.

Police were called to the premises in Little Dawley after neighbours noticing suspicious activity and spotted Gary Wynne climbing out of a smashed window, Shrewsbury Crown Court heard.

Wynne, of Burnside, Brookside, Telford admitted burgling the property in Rednall Fields.

Judge Peter Barrie, sentencing yesterday, said he had managed to keep out of trouble for six years but had turned to crime when things had gone wrong for him.

He said Wynne had been released from jail for burglary just three months before he committed the latest offence.

Judge Barrie said Wynne would serve half his sentence then be released on licence.

Mr Robert Edwards, prosecuting, said Roger Batchelor, who had lived at the property for 30 years had left it secured at about 9.10am on March 18 this year.

At about 12.45pm a neighbour noticed two men acting suspiciously and her daughter saw a man she thought was acting as a look-out near the property.

Mr Edwards said when police arrived they noticed broken glass and then the defendant was seen coming out of a window holding a black bag.

Wynne dropped the bag when he saw the officers and he was detained after a short chase. After his arrest and during interview Wynne made no comment.

Mr Batchelor confirmed the tools in the black bag were his.

Mr Timothy Harrington, for Wynne, urged the judge to impose a community sentence.
