Almost 5,000 Chelsea fans had travelled to Camp Nou to watch their side defeat Barcelona to reach the Champions League final, but none greeted Fernando Torres' winning goal with such excitement as commentator Gary Neville.

The former Manchester United star's squeal of delight provided an unwitting highlight for watching football fans, his howl described on Twitter as 'when Gary met Sally.'

And one of the many clips of the moment on YouTube has been viewed over 23,000 times.

Neville tried to explain away his Alan Partridge moment by saying that he had a sore throat - tweeting a picture of a packet of strepsils as he tries to recover for his next match on Sunday.
