The sunny Canary Islands will be the unlikely destination for a league dominoes match between two pub teams from Shropshire.
The sunny Canary Islands will be the unlikely destination for a league dominoes match between two pub teams from Shropshire.
Guy Lewis, who captains the Foresters Arms, has organised for their league match against the Queen's Head in Dawley to be played in Tenerife.
And he is flying the team out there using money left to him in his father's will. Guy says the trip is planned to take place in November, after the new season starts.
The idea came about when Guy discovered that the captain of the Queen's Head team Chris Robinson, and his wife Julie, had never been abroad.
Guy said: "When they told me I said we should play one of our games abroad as it would be a nice trip.
"They said they'd love to so I told them I could make it happen.
"I think dad would be quite proud.
"He'd want to be remembered and Chris and Julie won't forget their first trip abroad."
Barry Roden, who plays bowls with Guy, said: "He's organised things like this before but never this far away.
"To pay for their flights shows just the sort of bloke he is."
There will be a total of 16 people making the trip to Los Cristianos in early November to play in the match.
It will take place in one of the many English-themed pubs in the town.
Guy added: "We haven't decided what pub we'll play the match in yet.
"But there's plenty of English pubs around the town so I'm sure one of them will let us play in there.
"The league hasn't started yet so before it does we'll have to make sure the fixtures work out right," he added.
