Unemployment may be soaring but one businessman has been unable to fill a job vacancy – for two years.

Robin James, of the award-winning Robin James Engineering Services in Leominster, said he had tried everything to try and fill the vacancy for a motorcycle restoration fitter without success.

Mr James said: "It's amazing – you would have thought someone out there would like to do this job.

"We have tried everything to fill the job through advertising and word of mouth. We have even been on regional television but we are up a gum tree, what a pickle."

The 72-year-old believes a lack of knowledge and engineering skills in the area has contributed to his problem in finding a new employee.

"We need to find someone with the relevant skills. You can't just pull them off the shelf. They are not ready made anymore," he said.

Mr James, who has been running the business for 33 years with his wife Yve, added: "We are a world-class restorer of classic motorcycles.

"The job on offer involves restoring bikes, making parts, using machinery, doing research and road testing.

"We are prepared to offer a really good wage and conditions."
