A county festival which is said to decide whether there will be a summer in the Clun Valley has been cancelled – because of the weather.
The Clun Green Man Festival has been called off due to sodden fields and standing water on the village's car park.
Organisers say the decision has cost them up to £5,000 but no attempt would be made to reschedule the event, which was due to be held on Bank Holiday Monday.
A street fair due to take place in the town on the Sunday afternoon will still go ahead.
Chairman Jack Limond said: "The Green Man has had to concede defeat on this one and accept that nature has had its say."
Meanwhile, across the country people have been warned to keep away from swollen rivers as dozens of flood warnings remain in place in England and Wales.
