Whitchurch is bidding for an outdoor drinks licence covering the whole town centre ahead of a busy summer of events.

Councillors have applied for the licence, which would cover a series of events including live music, plays and dance.

They say it is cheaper to apply for one catch-all licence than keep making individual applications.

Under the licence alcohol could be served from 9am to 11pm seven days a week.

It would cover Green End, High Street, Bull Ring, Mill Street, Park Avenue, Park Road, Castle Hill, Sherry Mill Hill, Smallbrook, Yardington and Jubilee Park.

Councillor Rob Hewso said: "Because of the Queen's Jubilee and the 'party in the park' event we are having we decided to apply for a licence which will cover all outdoor events."

A report to members of Shropshire Council's licensing sub-committee says that the number of uses of the licence will be controlled, drinks will be served in plastic cups, and all alcohol will be consumed in a defined area.

The decision will be made on May 28 in Wem.
