It is an unusual work of art that was produced six decades ago – but this striking image of the Queen produced on a typewriter has received praise from Buckingham Palace.

Dennis Norris, now 83, painstakingly recreated an image of Elizabeth II shortly after her coronation in 1953 using just a typewriter and a careful selection of letters.

Earlier this year Mr Norris, a retired TSB bank manager, sent a copy of his creation to the Queen as a Diamond Jubilee gift and told her 2012 was also special for him because he and his wife Marie would be celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary. And he was delighted to receive a thank-you letter from Buckingham Palace.

Mr Norris, of Lower Minster in Oswestry, created the artwork after seeing a similar image in a magazine.

He said: "It took quite a while to work it out and work out where the letters go and how it all fitted together and the production process itself took about three hours. It is our wedding anniversary so this year is very special to us as well."

Mr Norris and his wife, who receives care at the Old Vicarage Nursing Home in Gobowen, are now looking forward to their own 60 year celebrations on June 21.
