Shoppers and passers-by were left doing a double take after a lorry mounted a car in a petrol forecourt on the Shropshire/Mid Wales border.

The lorry was spotted with its rear wheels on top of the bonnet of the car at the garage in Llandrinio, near Oswestry at about 4.30pm on Tuesday.

It is not known how the incident happened and no-one was injured.

A spokeswoman for the Mid and West Wales Fire Service said: "We were called to make the scene safe – it was a minor collision between a lorry and a car and no-one was injured.

"It happened on the garage forecourt and the lorry mounted the bonnet of the car, which suffered quite a lot of damage to it's front end."

She said one appliance from Welshpool had attended the scene and firefighters had made the scene safe.

Jackie Evans from Arddleen, near Welshpool, arrived at the garage shortly after the incident. She said: "It's not something you see every day.

"The wheels of the lorry had somehow managed to mount the bonnet of the car and I was just astonished.

"I thought I'd better take a picture to show my husband.

"I'm just amazed at how it could have happened."

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said they had attended but no-one had been conveyed to hospital.
