The leasehold on a well-known pub in Shropshire has gone up for sale with a price tag of £125,000.

The Boathouse Inn, on the bank of the River Severn next to the Porthill Footbridge, in Shrewsbury, has an annual net turnover of £690,000.

Lease-holder Tim Bennett has been running the venture for more than 10 years with business partner Chris Ballantyne.

Today, Mr Bennett, who lives in Yorkshire, said he was selling up to concentrate on other business concerns.

"After 10 very successful years I have decided to put the lease for the Boathouse on the market due to other business commitments in Yorkshire," he said.

He added that trade at the pub had more than doubled during his time in charge.

The pub's leasehold and contents and being sold by Birmingham-based agents Fleurets.

The pub boasts a lounge, bar, and function room and the owner's accommodation which comprises three bedrooms, an office, family bathroom and lounge.

A statement on the Fleurets website, said: "The business provides a mix of rustic charm with extensive outside trading, overlooking the river and car parking for approximately 12 vehicles.

"Given the location the business has healthy levels of passing trade."

The Boathouse is licensed to sell alcohol between 11am and midnight on Sunday to Thursday and 11am until 1am on Friday and Saturday.

It is said to have the 'best beer garden in Shropshire' and in hot weather hundreds of punters flock there. A statement from Fleurets, said: "The Boathouse benefits from an excellent al fresco trading area. The business also benefits from a substantial barbecue area, with numerous umbrellas and patio heaters."

Recently the Boathouse launched a ferry service to take people across the river while major repair work is carried out on Porthill Footbridge. The venture, run in conjunction with Sabrina Boats, has proved popular with more than 1,000 people using it within the first week.
