They are usually seen on the streets in the Far East – but rickshaw rides could soon be offered to late-night revellers in Shropshire.

Entrepreneur Milo Harrisson, from Llanrhaeadr, near Oswestry, has applied for a licence for a three-seater pedicab for use in Shrewsbury.

The 'taxi' would be used to transport party-goers around Shrewsbury at night.

For example, customers could be picked up from outside Montgomery's Tower on Lower Claremont Bank and taken across town to the C:21 nightclub in Abbey Foregate.

Mr Harrisson, 28, is planning to offer the service for free – but will be accepting tips.

"People can pay what they want for the ride," he said.

"It will be one of a kind."

Mr Harrisson said if the scheme was successful more rickshaws could be rolled out across the town.

He said: "I will just have the one to start with and try it for a few months to see what the trade is like.

"If it goes well I might get some more and rent them out for a fixed price."

Mr Harrisson said he had been inspired by a similar service which was running in Hereford. The licence for the pedicab is currently being considered by Shropshire Council.
