Hundreds of shoppers were forced to evacuate Shrewsbury's Tesco Extra store after a power cut.
Customers were seen flooding out of the Battlefield Road store, in Harlescott, as the supermarket was plunged into darkness yesterday afternoon for up to an hour by a power failure.
Staff cordoned off the petrol station, which was also left without electricity, and parts of the car park.
The incident happened at about 2.30pm yesterday.
Bosses today apologised for the power cut, which they confirmed had led to the shutting down of their checkouts.
