Shropshire Council said the water had subsided but mud on the carriageway still had to be removed.

Traffic was being diverted along the B4176 at Sutton Maddock and the A442 to Bridgnorth. The closure was expected to be in place until at least the end of today.

Near Worfield on the A454, 87-year-old World War Two veteran Desmond Weston had to be rescued by firefighters after he was left up to his waist in flood water.

A woman was also pulled from her car in the same location but both were unhurt.

Rook Lane and Roughton Village Road in Roughton, also off the A454 are expected to be closed until late tomorrow.
