A 53-year-old man who died in a fire at his home in Telford has been named by police as Andrew Nolan.

Mr Nolan, known to friends as Andy, died early on Wednesday when a fire broke out in his bedsit at Revlo Court in Brunel Road, Dawley.

West Mercia Police spokeswoman Denise Wakefield said: "The man who died in a fire in Dawley earlier this week was Andrew Nolan.

"His next of kin have been informed and formal identification has taken place."

An inquest is expected to take place once police investigations have been completed. No date has been set.

Police are not treating the fire as suspicious. It started shortly after 2.30am in an upstairs bedsit occupied by Mr Nolan.

Other residents at Revlo Court escaped as emergency services tackled the blaze.

But Mr Nolan was trapped and had to be rescued by firefighters. Paramedics pronounced him dead shortly after he was brought out of the building.
