Helen Hughes, organising secretary, said: "It went extremely well. The upside of the rain showers was that it meant people dived into all the marquees and spent their money on the treats there.

"There were lots of activities and lots of people attended. There must have been several thousand. People were enjoying themselves despite the weather. The fair gets better every year."

During the afternoon visitors were treated to archery, bric-a-brac stalls, books, plants and X-ray and arthroscopy displays which were inside marquees. Police, fire service and ambulance attended and there was also a helicopter from RAF Shawbury. The Territorial Army attended and vintage vehicles were also on display. Porthywaen Youth Band, the Orthopaedic Male Voice Choir and the Bill Basie Quartet provided the musical entertainment.

Oswestry Town Mayor Councillor Martin Bennett and the High Sheriff of Shropshire John Abram also attended. Ms Hughes said: "I would like to say thank you to everybody who has come and helped on the stalls and all the different activities. I would also like to thank those who supported us by attending."
