A mother-of-two from Market Drayton has spoken of her pride of the moment she carried the Olympic flame for more than 600 metres, describing it as an 'astonishing' experience.

Angela Warren, 45, carried the torch through Derby and it is believed she could have taken the flame the furthest of anyone along the Olympic Torch route so far.

She was signed up to do more than double the usual 300 metres because the next torchbearer did not turn up.

Mrs Warren, who suffers from degenerative disc disease and was nominated for her charity work, carried the torch for about 13 minutes as thousands lined the streets of Derby on Saturday.

She was nominated by work colleague Pam Walgate at Market Drayton-based factory Muller after organising a number of charity events in the town. In the past she has run marathons and half marathons for good causes but after having spinal surgery a year ago she had to walk along the streets as she carried the torch.

Mrs Warren is using her Olympic Torch to raise even more money for charity by offering people the chance to have a picture taken with it in return for a donation to the Histiocytosis Trust, which helps fund research to find a cure into histiocytosis and other similar diseases – call 07835 140981.

Mrs Warren said: "It was awesome, astonishing. There aren't the words to describe it."
