A carnival atmosphere was coming to Much Wenlock today as the town staged a celebratory street party as its famous Olympian Games reached the halfway mark.

The party was featuring entertainment all around the town as the games which inspired the modern Olympics continued.

Actors and locals were taking to the streets to re-tell the story of Dr William Penny Brookes and the Olympian Games he first staged in the town in 1850.

Events are continuing throughout the weekend with athletics tomorrow.

Today's party-goers were able to browse stalls while there were re-enactments of Victorian scenes.

Among the other attractions were a bird of prey, a dog display, a miniature railway and a performance of Much Ado About Wenlock.
