Thousands turned out for the fifth annual Battle of Shrewsbury festival which saw revellers get a glimpse of life in the 1400s.

The event saw hundreds of families go back in time with actors taking the part of warriors who fought in the battle.

The three-day event also included a real ale festival – a first for the organisers.

Children and adults also got the chance to get up close to a hawk and take part in a 'have a go' archery event.

Joyce Jagger, owner of Battlefield 1403, said the sunshine and host of events made this year a special one.

"It all went really well and we are absolutely delighted that we have had a great response," she said.

"The car parks were full and everyone enjoyed sitting in the sunshine and the variety of things that were on offer.

"The actors created a living village and recreated life as it was at the time of the battle 609 years ago.

"Everyone enjoyed themselves."

The festival ended with an annual service at St Mary Magdelene's Church, which is the only service held at the church.
