Police are today hunting a motorist who failed to stop after his car hit a five-year-old boy as he was walking along a street in Dawley, Telford.

The youngster, who has not been named, escaped with minor injuries.

Police believe the car would have suffered some damage in the accident and are appealing for witnesses.

The boy was walking in Ardern Avenue at about 3.45pm on Friday when the accident happened.

Police said the driver of a blue vehicle failed to stop after the incident, and the vehicle left the scene.

Emergency services were called and the child was treated by paramedics at the scene for a foot injury.

He was then taken to the Princess Royal Hospital for further treatment.

Police are investigating the incident and are appealing to anyone with information about the vehicle involved, or its driver, to come forward with information.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "The only description we have of the car is that it was a medium sized blue coloured vehicle.

"It is likely it would have sustained some damage.

"If you have any information at all as to whom the vehicle belongs to, or who was driving the vehicle at the time, then we would really like to hear from you."

Anyone with information should contact Telford Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
