National Grid was holding a meeting in Llanymynech Village Hall for members of the public to discuss its proposals for a 30-mile long powerline to link new wind farms in Mid Wales to the network in England.
Martin Clare, chairman of Llanymynech Against Pylons Action Group, said about 200 people were expected to demonstrate from about 5pm.
