Officers are treating the two vehicle fires in Arleston as suspicious.
A Vauxhall Corsa is believed to have been deliberately set alight on a driveway in Arleston Avenue at 1.45am yesterday.
Fire crews from Wellington had the blaze under control within about 15 minutes. The fire badly damaged the bonnet and engine.
Police spokeswoman Denise Wakefield said police were treating the blaze, and another in the same street just over an hour later involving a Volkswagen van, as arson.
Fire crews from Wellington were called out to the second blaze at about 3am. It caused £1,000 damage to the van.
Firefighters were also called out to a car fire in Bowring Park, near Haygate Road, Wellington, at just after 1am yesterday. Mrs Wakefield said the
Subaru, believed to have been stolen, was completely destroyed.
