Arsonists have attacked two cars in the latest in a spate of incidents across Telford. Firefighters were called out to Shawfield Close in Sutton Hill.

They attended the incident at 10.50pm yesterday, and a second incident in Arleston Avenue, Wellington, at about 2.30am today.

Police said the damage caused by the arson attacks on the two cars was about £2,200. They do not believe the incidents are linked.

A fire crew from Tweedale was at Shawfield Close for about an hour damping down. Two and a half hours later the crew from Wellington spent just over an hour putting out the fire in Arleston Avenue.

Fire investigation officers are now working with police to try to find the arsonists.

West Mercia Police spokeswoman Denise Wakefield said: "At Shawfield Close a silver Ford Galaxy was set alight. There was damage to the bonnet, fenders and front wheels. It caused about £2,100 damage.

"We were then informed of a silver Hyundai on fire in Arleston Avenue. About £120 damage was caused to a tyre. We are treating both incidents as arson but there is no suggestion that the fires are linked."

The fires come just days after a van and three cars were set alight on Sunday. Between 1-5am fire crews were sent out to a car fire in Haygate Road, Wellington; two separate car fires in Arleston Avenue, Wellington; and a van fire in Apley.

Anyone with information is urged to call 101.
