Emily Price had her first card from Her Majesty more than 20 years ago after reaching her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband Percy.

And she has now been sent another card from Buckingham Palace after reaching her 100th birthday on Tuesday.

Mrs Price, who worked at an Army depot and as a cleaner during her working life, celebrated her landmark birthday with her four nieces at Roden Hall Nursing Home in Telford.

Staff at the home also hired singer Paolo Pinto to sing old-style music to her and other residents at the home.

She said the secret to her long life was 'good living'.

Mrs Price worked at Donnington Army Depot for a while before working at a cleaners in Oakengates. She was married to her husband Percy for more than 50 years before he died of cancer more than 20 years ago.

She lived in Wrockwardine Wood for 15 years with her son, Roy, who died in January aged 74,

Val Mapp, one of Mrs Price's nieces, said: "She thought getting the card from the Queen was marvellous. It's her second card from the Queen because she got one when she had been married to her husband for 50 years.

"I think she's just surprised she has reached 100 because it just comes upon you, really.

"She's had a brilliant time.

"The home put a really nice do on and brought in a singer who sang all the sort of songs you'd expect. It was the right music for the party."

Linda Balderstone, manager of the home, said; "Emily was really tired after her party but she had a great time.

"She received so many flowers – it is almost like a florists here."

As well as Val, Mrs Price celebrated her big day with nieces Doreen, Maureen and Margaret.
