Telford & Wrekin Council's Disability Games will take place this weekend at several venues in the area including Oakengates Leisure Centre, Telford Tennis Centre and Abraham Darby Sports & Leisure Centre, with a whole host of activities lined up for people of all abilities.

The extravaganza will start with an opening ceremony at Oakengates Leisure Centre Athletics Track at 9.30am tomorrow which will begin with a Zumba warm up led by Telford & Wrekin Council's Aspirations Team followed by a march around the track.

Everyone is invited to wear bright colours and bring along art and crafts flags and torches to join in the celebrations before the games begin.

Activities will include tennis, touch rugby, football and swimming.

Telford Chin Woo will provide a martial arts taster and there is also the opportunity to try skiing, snowboarding and sit skiing at Telford Ski Centre.

There is also sailing on Priorslee Lake with members of Telford Sailability and a wheelchair walk taking place in the Ironbridge Gorge starting at the Toll House.

On Sunday a mini bus service will be available to take participants between venues. People planning to use the transport service are advised to ring in advance.

And people will be able to register to take part in the sports on the day.

Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for adult and social care, said: "You don't have to be a top athlete or live in London to be a part of the 2012 Games. This is your opportunity to have a go. You watched the Olympics now it is your turn. The Games are designed so that individuals with varying abilities can take part. Whatever your ability sign up for your activities and be part of the Telford Disability Games.

"If you do not want to participate but can spare a few hours please volunteer to help."

Family and friends are welcome.
