Sports included tennis, touch rugby, skiing and Boccia, which is a type of bowls.

Organiser Rachel Threadgold said the event had been a success and would encourage people to carry on with sport for years to come.

She said: "All the people who turned up had a really good experience. We've had about 70 people taking part, the youngest of whom was three years old.

"A number of people tried sports for the first time. In the tennis we had wheelchair users who hadn't played before, and others were able to try climbing with harnesses.

"With the Paralympics coming up, if this weekend hasn't inspired people to take part in sport then the next couple of weeks surely will.

"It's been a success and I'm sure we'll do something again."

The event started with an opening ceremony and Zumba warm-up on Saturday morning at Oakengates Leisure Centre.

There was also a martial arts taster session, an opportunity to try skiing, snowboarding and sit skiing at Telford Ski Centre, and sailing on Priorslee Lake.

A wheelchair walk took place in the Ironbridge Gorge.

Mrs Threadgold added: "We chose this weekend as it was the weekend before the Paralympics started and we wanted to bring the Games closer to the people of Telford and Wrekin. What has been key is the close link between the council and local clubs."
