Prees road flooded by pipe burst is still closed

A road in a north Shropshire village remains closed today – five days after gallons of water poured down it from a burst water main. Some homes have suffered damage as a result.

The water, which was knee deep in places, gushed down Moreton Street in Prees on Wednesday afternoon.

A handful of properties suffered flood damage, with some residents being forced to rip up their carpets.

Severn Trent was at the scene within three hours to stop the leak – but repair work still hasn't been completed and the road is closed to traffic.

Residents said similar flooding had happened in recent years and called on Severn Trent to fix the problem once and for all.

Alexis Park said: "This isn't the first time this has happened. It must be the third time in about five years.

"It needs to be sorted. I think they'd rather pay to repair people's homes than spend the money doing what's required."

Lorna Rice has been forced to move all of her belongings upstairs.

"This is the first time it's made it into the house," she said. "It seemed to take them a long time to switch off the supply."

Bert Wainwright, who lives nearby, said : "It was like a nine foot wide river." No-one from Severn Trent was available for comment yesterday.
