Ben Bentley continues his month-long campaign to highlight the area's top visitor attractions. Today it's the turn of Wonderland and Telford Town Park.
and check back each day for the latest idea.
Where is it? Telford Town Park, Telford, TF4 3NZ
What is it? Wonderland is what it says on the tin – it's a magical theme park of fairytales where kids can meet all the characters from their favourite story books, including Snow White and the Severn Dwarves and The Three Little Pigs. You'll all live happily ever after . . . .
Town Park, meanwhile, is Telford's biggest park, set in 170 hectares, and features an impressive array of free play equipment for children of all ages.
How much is it? Wonderland: Under 2s free; children and adults £6.95 and seniors £5.95. Town Park is free entry.
What is there to do? Discover the magic of Wonderland, an award-winning big park for little people, uniquely designed for children under ten.
Set in beautiful woodland, enchanting walks lead you through the world of fairytales where children delight in discovering their favourite storybook characters and their houses around every corner.
Bring fairytales to life with a push-button sound system and listen to the stories or sing along to the songs. You can walk through Dinosaur Valley and meet the giant T Rex, find your way around the Wonderland Maze, and enjoy the thrills of the Mad Hatter's tea cups, The Crazy Caterpillar, or an adventure on the White Rabbit ride. Have fun in Dribble the Dragon's giant indoor soft play area, or play crazy golf on the Jolly Roger.
It might be the height of summer, but visit the beautiful Winter Wonderland, a purpose built Swiss style village with delightful snow-capped houses set within the Wonderland woodland. That's right – it's Christmas every day – just like in the fairytales.
Meanwhile at Town Park itself, kids can attempt to scale the giant spiders web climbing frame and return to earth via one of the huge slides. Younger children can choose from swings to sandpits and an intermediate 'assault course'. Adults are not excluded either – they can take advantage of nature trails and trim trails.
Interesting fact: The park was formerly the site of industry. The London and North Western Railway ran through the park to Coalport via Stirchley and Madeley Market after the failure of the Shropshire Canal. This became the Silkin Way some years after the closure of the railway.
Opening times: 10am to 5.30pm weekends and school holidays.
Verdict: Wonderland offers a magical day out for all the family. Throw in a few hours on Telford Town Park and you really can't go far wrong with this one . . .
