Ironbridge's annual coracle regatta made a big splash as people travelled from across the country to join in the fun.

Coracle makers and owners from across Britain joined scores of competitors who turned up for the traditional event yesterday on the River Sever.

There were races and other fun activities, such as coracle spinning and coracle polo, and one star attraction was a coracle made not to a traditional British design but to one adopted by people in Vietnam.

The annual regatta has been going for about 20 years and is organised jointly by Ironbridge Lions, the Small Woods Association and the Greenwood Centre.

Spectators flocked from across the country to watch the fun in Ironbridge

John Marsh of Ironbridge Lions said: "We had showers during the afternoon but it couldn't dampen everyone's enthusiasm.

"A total of 25 coracles took part, a record number, and it was amazing how far some of them had come just for the event."

There was plenty to keep landlubbers occupied at the regatta, with a host of stalls featuring everything from woodcrafts to jewellery making.

Food was also on offer, including West Indian cuisine.
