The Co-op in Bagley Drive, Wellington, was closed today after the attempted robbery at about 9.50pm yesterday when three men burst in and demanded cash.

Police investigations were continuing today, with forensic officers combing the store for clues.

The men threatened three female workers at the store, demanding to know where the money was before leaving empty-handed on foot, and another member of staff called the police.

Police arrived minutes later and carried out a detailed search of the area but the suspects had fled.

The sign on the shop door today

Officers were analysing CCTV and carrying out house-to-house inquiries today while a sign on the shop door said it was closed due to unforeseen circumstances

Police taped off the aisles as they continued investigations, and are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Allan Black, of Telford CID, said: "The store is in a residential area so we are hoping a resident or passer-by may have seen something that could help us with our inquiries.

"It is likely the suspects were hanging around in the run up to the attempted robbery. Did you see three men acting suspiciously in the Bagley Drive area? It is vital you contact us."

Information can be passed to Telford CID on 101.
