Thousands welcome Paralympic Flame as Telford man joins relay
Thousands of people turned out to welcome the Paralympic flame as it passed through London on its way to tonight's opening ceremony.
Professor Stephen Hawkin was due to have a starring role in the ceremony.
The torch is being carried to the Olympic Stadium on a 24-hour relay which set off from Stoke Mandeville Hospital last night.
Today's route saw it travel through well-known landmarks including Abbey Road, made famous by The Beatles, and Lord's Cricket Ground.
Last night four individual flames representing the four home nations were carried into the stadium at Stoke Mandeville and one combined torch was carried out.
Ian Preece, from Dawley, was part of the torchbearers' relay.
The 33-year-old, who was chosen for his work with Club 2000 as a football coach, said: "It was fantastic. It was amazing, It was one of those moment you always cherish."
Mr Preece said he wanted to dedicate the event to his sister Emma, 29, who is battling brain cancer. He said he was delighted when she watched him today.
