Upset for film fans after Ice Age 4 screening axed
Disappointed children were among 200 people who had to be turned away from a summer holiday film screening when the projector broke down.
Families flocked to Whitchurch Civic Centre to see animated hit Ice Age 4 yesterday afternoon. But bosses from mobile cinema service Reels on Wheels were forced to pull the plug at the last minute after problems with the projector.
Spokesman Robert Johnson said about 200 people had booked £3 tickets for the showing.
He apologised for any inconvenience caused and said: "Just as we were about to open the door our projector broke down.
"It was the only one we had with us and we had to send it straight to Manchester to be repaired.
"We couldn't give people refunds as most of the tickets were booked through Whitchurch Heritage Centre, which is council run, so it was a bit of a double whammy.
"To try and keep people happy we are saying they should hold on to their tickets, which will be valid for a rearranged showing of Ice Age 4 at 5.30pm on Tuesday."
Tickets will be valid for the rescheduled showing, but Mr Johnson said if ticket-holders preferred, refunds would be available from Reels on Wheels during future visits to Whitchurch.
Ticket holders should call (01782) 305111 for more details.
Reels on Wheels has been bringing the big screen to rural village halls and market towns throughout the county for 30 years.
It can show films on 35mm film, but also has the latest 2D and 3D projectors, with Dolby digital sound.
Earlier this year the company stepped in to show the Oscar-winning silent film The Artist in Telford when the town's Odeon Cinema claimed it was unable to do so itself.
More than 250 people attended the screenings at the Oakengates Theatre.
