Abandoned chemicals are cleared from Sleap Airfield

Drums containing mysterious chemicals and powders that were abandoned near an airfield near Wem have finally been removed and disposed of.

But contractors for the Environment Agency have said they cannot disclose what they believe was in the drums because of an ongoing investigation.

Contractors have spent a month removing 60 eroded and leaking drums from a trailer.

The articulated lorry was left on a minor road leading to Sleap Airfield near Wem and was reported to police in July, although it is believed it could have been there for several years.
