The Malpas Yesteryear Rally attracted people of all ages.

The weekend-long event at Hampton, near Whitchurch, was a milestone for organisers the Malpas Vintage Machinery Association.

They first held the annual rally 40 years ago. The association was founded in 1971 by a small group of vintage tractor and steam engine enthusiasts.

Traction engines and other vehicles were among the biggest draws.

An event spokeswoman said: "It has done very well indeed and there have been thousands through the door. There has been something for everyone.

"There have been steam engines, military vehicles, cars, motorbikes – you name it – and they have been on show here over the weekend.

"Many people have remarked how impressed they have been by the show and that they will return next year for camping which would make a great weekend of it.

"The weather has been absolutely fantastic on both days as well, so that has helped make everything run a bit smoother and attract a few more people than usual.

"We will be able to put a figure on visitor numbers later in the week, but we are very pleased."

Attractions over the weekend included 30 steam engines, 18 miniature steam engines, 120 commercial vehicles, 70 military vehicles, 120 cars, 100 stationary engines and 100 motorcycles.
