Walkers invited to see wonders of Oswestry landscape
Forget the Seven Wonders of the World – Oswestry has its own Seven Wonders.
Instead of the Great Pyramid of Giza and the Colossus of Rhodes, Oswestry has the meadow of Sweeney Fenn and the limestone quarry at Llanymynech Rocks.
This Sunday people can discover the joys of the local landscape as the Shropshire Wildlife Trust holds a nature walk through the seven nature reserves in the area.
The fundraising event, which kicks off at the Trefonen Village Hall between 8am and 10am, gives walkers the opportunity to visit all seven sites and raise funds for the trust.
"The routes follow public rights of way across rolling farmland between woods, fenn and common land between the Trust's seven nature reserves in the area," said Sarah Gibson, from the trust.
Walkers should take their own lunch and wear appropriate clothing. Strong footwear is recommended. Dogs, which have to be kept on leads, get their own treat of dog biscuits. Refreshments will be available for walkers.
Participants are asked to meet at Trefonen Village Hall between 8am and 11am.
The aim of the event is to raise funds for the trust and there will be an entrance fee of £8 to the event if booked in advance or £10 on the day. Those who are under 18 will be able to get in for free, but anyone under the age of 14 is required to be with an adult.
