County inns feature on Red Lion pubs quest
A woman on a three-year long pub crawl has stopped off in Shropshire in her quest to visit every Red Lion in Britain.
Cathy Price, a personal trainer from Preston, embarked upon the challenge in April last year and has so far visited 223 Red Lion pubs, with around 400 more to go.
She ticked off a few more on her hit-list yesterday when she visited Red Lions in Ellesmere, Oswestry, Bomere Heath, Wrockwardine, Wellington and Shrewsbury.
And the pub crawl was set to continue today when she was due to visit pubs in Newport, Sutton and Stafford on her way home.
The 53-year-old said she thought up the challenge after hearing the Red Lion was the most popular name for pubs in Britain.
And she said she hoped to write a book about her adventure once she completed the challenge.
Miss Price said: "There is a huge map on my kitchen wall with each one pinpointed and I take photos of each one.
"I write notes on every visit and there is a book in progress. The project has generated much interest from radio, TV, magazines and newspapers as well as breweries, and groups such as CAMRA, Cask Marque and Dea Latis.
"I don't have an alcoholic drink in every one because I am often doing the driving but I will have something and learn more about each pub and the people around. The book won't just be about the pubs but more about the journey I have taken and what I learned.
