Oswestry pub gets a new look with sculptures
Swinging pub signs can be seen the length and breadth of Britain, but nothing can compare with the new 'sign' unveiled outside one Shropshire pub.
Oswestry's Griffin Inn's new 'sign' features a sculptured figure sitting on a swing, another sitting on a window ledge and a third seemingly suspended in mid air.
The piece of art, unveiled on Saturday, was created by sculpturer Jaz Davidson as part of the Inside Out art group's Art Works project, which sees artists teamed up with businesses to promote Oswestry.
Mr Davidson, whose work was on show this year at the London Erotica exhibition, said he was delighted to get involved.
He said: "The Griffin is my local and licensees Gary and Carol Brennan have been very supportive.
"They wanted a new pub sign and so I did something that was not just a sign, but a work of art."
John Swogger, from the Inside Out art group, said: "As Oswestry moves towards the challenge of a new identity amidst rapid economic and social change, the Art Works project hopes to explore ways in which artists and businesses in a market town might face that challenge together.
"We're keen to create new kinds of links between local artists and local businesses that move beyond simple exhibitions."
