Sisters give birth on the same day

Two sisters have a double reason to celebrate after both became mothers to baby boys – on the same day and in the same hospital.

Despite there being a week between their due dates, the family of Joanne Waters and Hayley Evans had a running joke that their babies would be born on the same day.

And, despite Joanne being 12 days overdue and Hayley being six days overdue, that's exactly what happened.

The sisters, who live near Welshpool and Oswestry, defied the odds to give birth to the healthy boys at Wrexham Maelor Hospital within a matter of hours of each other on September 14.

Joanne, who is married to Neil, gave birth first to Stanley Caled Waters at 4.22am.

Stanley weighed in at a healthy 8lbs 8.5oz and is the couple's first child.

Hayley, 29, went into labour and was with her partner Dave Walton when Evan David Walton was born at 5.05pm weighing 8lbs 11oz.

Little Evan is Hayley and Dave's first child.

The new arrivals have delighted the sisters' parents Terry and Ann Evans, from Guilsfield, near Welshpool, and elder sister Teresa who followed the developments all day from her home in Australia via the phone and internet.

Joanne, 34, who lives at Sweeney Mountain, near Oswestry, said: "Members of the family had been joking that we would go into labour on the same day, but I didn't expect it to happen.

"It is incredible it has happened, especially because our due dates were a week apart.

"My sister came to see me on the Wednesday in hospital and then the following day she texted me to say her waters had broken and was on her way to the same hospital. I couldn't believe it.

"Hayley lives at Bron-y-Buckley in Welshpool and we live near Oswestry but we have managed to see each other a lot since the babies were born."
