In Ellesmere developers want to convert the Grade II-listed former Space art gallery in Scotland Street into a day nursery creating six jobs.

And in Woore, near Market Drayton, developers want to open a cattery and kennels for up to 30 cats and 10 dogs by converting outbuildings at Villa Farm in Audlem Road. Planning applications for both schemes have been submitted to Shropshire Council.

The Ellesmere proposals have been welcomed by town business leaders, and would see the nursery open from 7.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays.

Lincoln McMullan, chairman of Ellesmere Chamber of Commerce, said: "Some parents have told me they have to drive to places like Maesbury to take their children so it will be a godsend."

The nursery would replace the old gallery, which supported the work of local people with disabilities until it closed about a year ago.

In Woore, applicant Michael Holland wants to create four detached buildings to house pets plus a food store, grooming area and isolation pen.

Documents indicate there would be three full-time and three part-time jobs created.
