MP boundary review leaves Shropshire cut up

Changes to the electoral map of Shropshire have received a mixed reaction from two county MPs, as members of the public are urged to have their say on the latest proposals.

David Wright, who represents Telford, said he welcomed revised plans put forward by the Boundary Commission to make most of the town into a single constituency.

The previous idea had been to cut Telford in two partly along the route of the M54.

But Mark Pritchard, who represents the neighbouring Wrekin constituency, said he doubted the plans would ever go through because of turmoil within the coalition Government.

Under the plans, most of urban Telford would become a single ward.

A new constituency covering Bridgnorth, Wellington and The Wrekin would also be created, stretching from the Worcestershire border and including Newport and parts of Telford.

And the proposed Ludlow and Leominster constituency has been reduced in size following concerns that it was too big.
