The Major Series Midlands challenge was staged in the grounds of Weston Park, near Shifnal, on Saturday, with more than 600 people taking on the gruelling test of stamina.

The event, run by British Military Fitness, had obstacles every kilometre along the 5km and 10km courses.

John Bradley, 43, from Wellington, won the 'minor' 5km event.

He said: "It was brilliant. It was much better than last time when it was the same course for both groups so there was a bit of queueing for the obstacles. This time we went off at different times and on different courses so it was much better. Last time I finished third or fourth I think so to finish first this year was good."

Mr Bradley completed the 5km course, in just over 35 minutes.

Andy May, 47, a stay-at-home father from Shrewsbury, completed the 5km course in under his target time of an hour.

He said: "It was my first time and I really enjoyed it. My wife did the one in March and I thought it looked like fun. I completed the course in around 50 minutes so I reached my target of finishing in under an hour."
